Kids' Rooms

Q: We're planning on redecorating our 5-year-old daughter's room, and we want to transition it from a toddler room to a big girl room. Do you have any recommendations as to how to do this?
A: Little girls and big girls love fancy, romantic, fairy tale beds – how about a canopy bed? If she is more of a tomboy, try a bunkbed set for sleepovers. Whatever you choose, remember that children spend a great deal of time in their rooms – playing, studying and sleeping – choose furniture that fits your child's physical needs but also his or her dreams.
Q: We've got three young children and a dog, and we're in the process of buying a new sofa for our family room. What do you suggest we buy?
A: Leather is an excellent choice for children and pets. It is easy to care for and clean. Other alternatives are denim or canvas slipcovers for a sofa and chairs. Other upholstery such as darker plaids tend not to show dirt and stains as much, however it may not be the best choice if you have a dog or cat with white/yellow fur.
